The Monaco Yacht Show is a must-attend event for enthusiasts of the industry – It is the only boat show that focuses on superyachts. 120 superyachts were the stars of this edition.

By Mariateresa Campolongo and Francesco Michienzi

To fully grasp the state of the art in the global yachting industry when it comes to superyachts, you necessarily need to visit the Monaco Yacht Show, the most important industry event. Every year, the protagonists of yachting are summoned to the Monegasque stage in a sort of collective rite, some to sell and buy, others to present theri novelties , and yet others in search of answers on the future perspectives of a world that is becoming increasingly complex and articulated.

There is not one good answer that will fit all. The recipes are highly diverse and unexpected. the most important ingredient has to do with the ability of global shipyards to stun the market with superyachts of incredible shapes, sizes and technology. The common denominator is excellence, which is easy to perceive in every stand of this Monegasque event that has reached its 33′ each one of the 120 superyacht edition this year, as well as on each one of the 120 superyachts that were the stars of the show and whose average length bordered on 50 metres.
As every year, the Port Hercule skyline was the backdrop of the Monaco Yacht Show. The Dockside Area was the main space dedicated to superyachts and
tenders. Large sailboats were exhibited in the Sailing Yacht Area; the space of the Adventure Area,on the other hand, was dedicated to experiences and entertainment on board yachts, from tenders to toys, in addition to an exclusive selection of highly performing luxury cars to highlight the close bond between the car and yacht design industries. The Sustainability Hub offered visitors a chance to discover the most recent innovations that contribute to making the pleasure yachting industry more environmentally friendly. Lastly, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub was the ideal area to learn about the most cutting-edge technological advancements. There were many world premieres on the show this year; one of the most awaited novelties was no doubt the Seawolf X,the first hybrid- electric catamaran by Rossinavi. With a length of 42.75 metres, external design by Fulvio De Simoni and interiors signed by Meyer Davis Studio, the Seawolf X impressed us with its smart design ideas and the construction quality typical of the Rossinavi yards, which is specialised in one-off designs.

AT THE END OF JULY 2024, 633 NEW SUPERYACHTS ABOVE
30 METRES WERE UNDER CONSTRUCTION, DIVIDED INTO 600 MOTOR YACHTS AND 33 SAILBOATS. 41% OF THESE SHIPS
ARE IN THE 30-40-METRE CATEGORY. (SOURCE MONACO YACHT SHOW).

YACHT DESIGN & INNOVATION HUB WAS THE AREA
DEDICATED TO TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS AND THE MOST ADVANCED DESIGN, WHICH CAME TOGETHER TO REDEFINE THE FUTURE TRENDS OF LUXURY YACHTING.

We were able to admire the elegant interiors of the Seawolf X accompanied by the thrilling and proud narrative of Federico Rossi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Rossinavi, who illustrated all the details of the yacht and the optimization of spaces, as well as remarkable technological innovations that were employed in the power management and propulsion. As Maurizio Minossi, CEO of Videoworks, stated during the conference that washeld at the MYS to explore this issue, the Seawolf X is equipped with an artificial intelligence system called Rossinavi Al, which improves comfort and maximizes the yacht’s ecological potential. Other speakers at the Videoworks conference were Prof. Sergio Saponara, from the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Pisa, who explained the great potential of the application of Al in the luxury yacht industry, and Claudia Rossi (Chief Commercial Officer of Rossinavi) who confirmed that the installation of an Al system for on-board power management is an important innovation in the nautical industry, which aims at optimizing fuel consumption and supporting the crew. The conferences at the Monaco Yacht Show are a unique opportunity to discover new projects and explore the connections between yachting and other industries. Stefano Pastrovich presented Xpagoda, arevolutionary Boutique Charter Superyacht, ie. a 59-metre aluminium catamaran that can accommodate 20-30 passengers, for unlimited navigation with onboard overnight accommodation. Created in collaboration with partners GMDesign&Service, Chartwell Marine, Wolf, Rina, and Malta Flag, Xpagoda is a platform for charter superyachts. It is modular and highly flexible, offering countless customization options, from the number and arrangement of the suites and guest cabins, and to the complete customization of all common areas.

SUSTAINABILITY HUBHA PRESENTATO LE ULTIME INNOVAZIONI
CHE CONTRIBUISCONO A RENDERE IL SETTORE DELLA NAUTICA
DA DIPORTO PIU RISPETTOSO DELLAMBIENTE. THE SUSTAINABILITY HUBHAS PRESENTED THE LATEST INNOVATIONS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING THE YACHTING INDUSTRY MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY.

After the conference, the immersive experience made us fully appreciate the originality of the project in close relationship with the marine environment. On the topic of the close connection between yachting and other industries, Bombardier’s Aviator Lounge hosted an exclusive and interesting round table with exponents from VistaJet, Bombardier, Benetti, and Fraser. This was an important opportunity to explore the increasing bond between private aviation and yachting and how
both industries cater to a common and highly demanding clientele. Among the monohull yachts previewed at the Monaco Yacht Show, we were particularly impressed by the Custom Line 50 M/Y Asante, the first full- aluminium pleasure yacht signed by Custom Line. The exterior was created by architect Filippo Salvetti, while Studio ACPV Architects Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel designed the interiors, which were entirely made to measure. The interiors show an extremely detailed study of volumes, with a consequent maximization of liveability. It was highly interesting to detect a reinterpretation of yachting tradition in a contemporary key in the interiors, in a way that was strictly original and never banal. The Sanlorenzo 50Steel had its official debut at the Monaco Yacht Show – a ship designed by Zuccon International Project for the exterior and Piero Lissoni for the interiors. A superyacht full of interesting solutions, from the distribution system, centred on the verticality of spaces (which constantly dialogue with each other), to the technological aspect. It also offers the possibility of generating zero-impact energy thanks to the Reformer Fuel Cell system driven by green methanol that fuels the entire onboard hotellerie system with zero emissions. Benetti presented the M/Y Kasper 7 and M/Y Calex in Monaco for the first time, from the 50m B.Now family. Among them is the Kasper 7, which is distinguished by the owner’s original touch, who designedthe interiors making the yacht a true floating villa. The strong personality of the owner was easy to perceive on board the 50-metre Columbus Custom Hybrid M/Y Anjelif aswell – made to measure to reflect the client’s desires in every way. The entire project is the result of the creative vision of owner Maria Francesca Angelini, who was supported in the design of the exterior by Marco Casali of Too Design. The yacht, which has a hybrid diesel/electric propulsion system, has interiors featuring refined and highly sophisticated materials and details. Tankoa shipyard presented the T580 Diamond Binta, entirely designed to measure with exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski and interiors in collaboration with Margherita Casprini. Another point of interest was the functionality of the spaces on all decks; among the details we most appreciated was the panoramic corridor on the lower deck that connects the cabins directly to the beach area passing through the fully visible engine room. In terms of sailboats, we were very impressed by the wallywindiro by Wally shipyards: the layout of the cockpit which, is entirely free from technical equipment, simplifies the yacht and offers different ways of experiencing it. In addition to superyachts and conferences, the Monaco Yacht Show also offers a taste of different cultures with parties and
presentations, such as the Antigua & Barbuda party which showed the opportunities present on the island for superyachts and reminded attendees
of the appointment with the Antigua Charter Yacht Show from 4 to 9December 2024.
